IRCC-AFP Meeting 2022

Mitaka Campus, October 24th – 28th

The first meeting of the International Research Collaboration Center for Astro-fusion plasma Physics (IRCC-AFP) will be held at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) on the Mitaka campus (Tokyo) on October 24th-28th. The meeting will define the future of the IRCC-AFP with a focus on reconnection and shock waves in various aspects of both astrophysical and fusion plasmas with the intent to build new international research partnerships. The first two days, from Oct. 24th to 25th, will be dedicated to presentations, followed by a workshop from Oct. 26th to 28th.

Presentation Instructions

We encourage all presenters to participate in person, but virtual options will be available if unable to travel. Speakers should aim for a general presentation of her/his work (15+5 minutes). The last slide of the presentation should cover the main challenges/topical issues to be addressed in the future to motivate the discussions for the workshop.

Workshop Instructions

To facilitate discussions and encourage collaborative projects, we ask each participant of the three-day workshop to prepare one slide that will be first briefly discussed during the workshop introduction on Wednesday morning. The slide should contain a summary/abstract of a problem that would be discussed in subgroups during the main workshop sessions on Thursday and Friday. People interested in joining a discussion should sign up on the slide and contact the organizer. Please, specify if you plan to attend the workshop in person or virtually. On Thursday morning, the workshop will focus on fusion methods and potential applications to astrophysical environments.

We ask the participants to upload the workshop

slide one week before the workshop on the following link:

Venue

·         Access to NAOJ

Information relative to the access to NAOJ using public transportation from Narita & Haneda Airports, and Tokyo station as well as from the closest stations can be found here:

https://www.nao.ac.jp/en/access/mitaka/access.html

A key card is required to enter NAOJ. Please request your key card when accessing NAOJ through the Main Gate for the first time. For further details on how to access the Main Gate, please refer to the following link

https://www.nao.ac.jp/en/access/mitaka/visit/

·         Hotels

Those who do not stay in the Cosmos lodge must book a hotel by themselves. There is no hotel near NAOJ, and it is recommended to stay near either Musashisakai station (JR Chuo line) or Chofu station (Keio line) and take a bus to NAOJ. Chofu is larger and there are more dining options. Also, there is a direct bus service to Narita and Haneda airports.

1.
Hotel Mets Musashisakai (*recommended*)

Just in front of the Musashisakai station. The room is small but clean and modern, reasonably priced, and with nice breakfast options.

2.
Chofu Creston Hotel
Just in front of the Chofu station. Relatively upscale and expensive.

3.
Urban Hotel Twins Chofu
Near Chofu. Not very fancy but reasonably priced.

4.
HOTEL LiVEMAX Chofu-Ekimae
Near Chofu. Probably the cheapest option in Chofu.

5.
Kichijoji Tokyu REI Hotel
Near Kichijoji station, which is a bit far away but there is a direct bus
service to NAOJ. Small but modern and reasonably priced.
