MockGals

GNU Astronomy Utilities

MockGals is now continued as part of the GNU Astronomy Utilities. In particular the MakeProfiles, Convolve and MakeNoise programs within it. Please see there for more information.

MockGals

MockGals was a tool specifically made to make mock stars and galxies in an image and to add noise to the resulting images. Below you can see an example of it in action! 45 mock galxies and 5 stars are placed randomly in an image. On the left, you can see the original mock galaxies. In the middle they are blurred because of the atmospheric and instrumental effects on the image and on the right, background noise is added to them.

Original, unconvolved
image. Convolved with the PSF Noise added.
